Netflix is forming an alliance with producer and screenwriter Steve Kloves to create Northern Spy, an adaptation of Flynn Berry’s blockbuster novel of the same name, in an effort to extend its collection of feature film thrillers. Steve Kloves, one of the original screenwriters for the Harry Potter films, will pen the script for Netflix’s Northern Spy. Kloves was also nominated for an Academy Award for his script for Wonder Boys.

Our sources inform us that Netflix aggressively sought the novel’s rights, and some of the industry’s best talent has already expressed interest in starring in the film. Stacey Sher, the producer of Django Unchained, will produce this film. Kloves will also serve as an executive producer.

The plot of Northern Spy:

Northern Spy, as previously stated, is an adaptation of Flynn Berry’s bestselling novel of the same name, which was released in April 2021. It was Reese Witherspoon’s book of the month, the same month it was released.

The plot revolves around Tessa who is a BBC producer and a new mother. One day while she is at work in Belfast, a word comes on the radio that there has been another raid. Since the good Friday agreement the IRA which was supposed to have gone underground for the last two decades, never actually went away. Proof of which are the everyday bomb threats, security checkpoints, and helicopters floating over the city. While the reporters make a public appeal to help locate the robbers, CCTV footage shows Marian who is Tessa’s sister pulling a black ski mask over her face. So now the police go after Marian and believe that she has joined the IRA. But according to Tessa Mariam is vacationing on the North coast and both the sisters oppose violence and stand to unite Ireland. But when the truth is revealed Tessa is torn between her ideals, her bond with family, her beliefs of right and wrong, and if she should stand by her sister or not.

In all this chaos the only person Tessa wants to protect even more than her own sister is her infant son Finn. It would be interesting to watch her on her journey and separate right from wrong and stand by the truth.
