WASHINGTON (AP) – United States, the United Kingdom and Australia announced Tuesday that they would work together through the security alliance recently known as the aukus to develop hypersonic missiles.
The move came amid fears that developed by A.S. And allies about Chinese military firmness that grew in the Pacific. President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced plans after conducting a check-in of the progress of the aukus, the Indo-Pacific alliance launched by three countries in September.
The leaders said in their shared statements “committed today to start new trilateral cooperation in hypersonics and counter-hypersonics, and electronic warfare capabilities, and to expand information sharing and deepen cooperation in defense innovation.”
The A.S., Russia and China all have seen further to develop hypersonic missiles – systems that are so fast that they cannot be intercepted by the current missile defense system.
In October, General Mark Milley, chairman of the head of staff, confirmed that China had tested the hypersonic weapons system as part of its aggressive efforts to advance in military technology and technology.
Milley described Chinese tests as “very significant events of the hypersonic weapons system test, and it was very concerned,” in Bloomberg television interviews.
Russia has used the Hypersonic “Multiple” missile times in Ukraine, according to Commander U.S. Top in Europe.
The last fall, as US intelligence officials had become increasingly worried about Massing Russian forces on the Ukrainian border, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged the country’s weapons producers to develop more advanced hypersonic missiles to maintain the superiority of the country in military technology.
The Russian military said that the Avangard system was able to fly 27 times faster than the speed of sound and make sharp maneuvers on the way to the target to avoid enemy missile shields. It has been installed on intercontinental ballistic missiles which were built by Soviets that existed in the overhules of older types, and the first unit armed with the assignment of Avangard in December 2019.
