The Afghan-Taliban crisis highlighted: The Taliban called the Afghan Imam to encourage unity when they held the first Friday prayer since the Islamic group won the country’s control, in protest against the takeover spread to more cities on Thursday, including the capital.
Some people died when Taliban guerrillas opened fire on the crowd in the eastern city of Asadabad, a witness said. Another witness reported a shot near a general meeting in Kabul, but they seemed to shoot the Taliban into the air.
On Thursday, the Taliban celebrated Afghanistan’s independence day, stating that it had defeated “Arrogant World Power” in the United States. Afghan independence day commemorates the 1919 agreement which ends the British government in the Central Asian country, the Associated Press reported.
The protesters rose to the streets to join the Rules of Taliban for the second day of Thursday, this time marched in Kabul, including near the Presidential Palace.
In one demonstration in the city, around 200 people had gathered before the Taliban broke it hard. The Taliban announced a curfew in the Southeast City of Khost, also on Thursday, after protests there. The authorities did not say how long it applies.
