Avert The Worst”: UN Urges World To Halt Worsening Afghanistan Crisis

KABUL: The United Nations urged the world to stand in Afghanistan at a promise conference on Thursday where he was looking for a record $ 4.4 billion in humanitarian assistance to the damaged country.
The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan on August 15 amid a withdrawal of foreign troops led by us, and the country’s humanitarian crisis had quickly deteriorated since then.

The donor conference comes a week after the hardline Islamists close the school girls, to expand international disappoints, even though they promise a softer version of their previous hard regime, from 1996 to 2001.

While condemning closure, UN, Britain, Germany, and Qatar, the co-hosting virtual pledging shows, insisting on the international community should not leave Afghans, with 60 percent of the population that requires assistance to remain.

And they also urged donors not to fall into the trap to ignore the crisis in Afghanistan while confiscated by Russian war in Ukraine.

Ukraine is very important but Afghanistan calls our soul to commit and loyalty,” said United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths told reporters, talking from Kabul.

The United Nations is looking for three times the amount requested in 2021, but the biggest single attraction for funds so far is only guaranteed 13 percent of the money needed.

Afghanistan said was on the verge of economic collapse, with more than 24 million people in need of humanitarian assistance to survive.

We need to prevent the worst in Afghanistan and that is why we call for donors to step and become generous,” Griffiths said.

British diplomats say basic services such as health and education are now “kneeling”, while millions do not have access to work and people take loans to survive, with 80 percent of household expenditure occurs in food.

Furthermore, “as if things couldn’t worsen”, this country suffers from worst droughts in decades, he said.

Taliban triggered anger after ordering middle school women to close only a few hours after allowing them to reopen for the first time since seizing power.

Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said it was important for the Taliban to hear it from the Muslim world that “Islamic teachings do not limit women”.

While we understand the sensitivity behind promising Afghanistan in this climate, we also emphasize the importance of insolation of Afghanistan again. This legitimizes radical position,” he told reporters.

We must be very strong in the curse and we must be very clear in talking to the Taliban about human rights violations but also we should not leave Afghanistan. We have left Afghanistan once, and we know what the results.”

The promised event began at 1300 GMT with the address by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and must conclude around 1700 GMT.

The UK announced that it would promise $ 380 million in the next financial year, with at least 50 percent of the assistance targeted to reach women and girls.

Ansari said the purpose of this conference was to give Afghanistan “hope for the future” by gathering and maintaining human life and human rights in the country.
